“First comes the community, second comes the planner”...
Eva de Klerk is an activist, urban pioneer and bottom-up project booster. She has worked on numerous projects in Berlin, a city where neglected spaces are prolific. De Klerk places emphasis on community in her approach to urban spaces in need of development. Her participation in various Berlin urbanism conferences (Space Activism Marathon of the Olafur Eliasson’s Institüt für Raumexperimente in 2010, Make Shift Conference in 2012) has been complemented by a profound engagement with the Tempelhof project. The latter exemplifies the bottom-up approach to the utilisation of public space, where the needs and desires of users are prioritised.
