MAKING SPACES concerns itself with the work of thought-provoking female or female identified spatial practitioners (architects, urbanists, sociologists, curators, critics, etc.) and their respective approaches to our urban landscape. By bringing together protagonists and examining their practices MAKING SPACES provides a framework to present and develop ideas through workshops, talks, interventions and exhibitions. This website wants to further improve practitioners’ visibility and create lasting networks.
MAKING SPACES was initiated by interdisciplinary cultural agency NICHE BERLIN* together with art historian Christina Landbrecht, architect Rosario Talevi and PETUNIA* editor Valérie Chartrain.
Interdisciplinary cultural agency NICHE BERLIN offers new perspectives through art exhibitions, architecture research projects and most notably custom-made art and architecture tours. It is run by art historians Stefanie Gerke and Nele Heinevetter as well as architect Katharina Beckmann. The art and entertainment feminist magazine PETUNIA is the brainchild of writer and curator Dorothée Dupuis and Valerie Chartrain with artist Lili Reynaud Dewar. Each issue of PETUNIA is organised around subjective emergencies presenting multiple facets on a topic largely influenced by critical studies in the field of art, architecture, design and film.
The online platform was conceived by Valérie Chartrain.
